Diesels in North Wales
Welcome
* T'internet is a great thing in't it ? Most of these photos haven't seen the light of day since they were taken, but the success of my Wirral Mafia site (see link opposite) has inspired me to share some more memories.....

* If you're a fan of Choppers, Goyles, Cromptons, Tractors and even (whisper it quietly) Duffs, I'm sure you'll find something of interest on this site. There are none of my favourite class, 40s, as the aforementioned Mafia site more than caters for them ! Also featured are more exotic visitors to the area: Deltics, Westerns and Logs....

* So why North Wales ? I'm not ashamed to say it's my favourite line, mainly for the teenage memories it evokes, and these pics tell the story of a wide variety of loco classes, liveries, stock formations and lineside changes over the years.
* I practically lived on the North Wales line in the summers of '81 and '82, chasing those lumbering whistling beasts and then, after the 40s had gone, I sank into a sullen state of semi-retirement. While other bashers moved onto other engines, I only came out for the odd trip 'up the Coast', sampling a nice range of classes never before seen there.....

* Loco numbers and dates taken are included in the picture file names where known, but many lack details I'm afraid, as I'd simply lost the will to note things down after the 40s had disappeared. If anyone wants any other details, e.g. trains, exact locations, please get in touch via the message option. Certainly, if anyone knows the missing locos and/or dates, I'd be grateful !

* Most of my photos are just station shots and aren't the greatest quality, as I never had a brilliant camera, but every picture tells a story.....Special thanks go to my Wirral Mafia stablemate Dave Wood, for allowing me to use his much better quality pics. Cheers, Occy (40008)

7th Dec 2008Cheerio Chopper / Bye Bye Bomb!
I went to bid D8142 a fond farewell from the Llangollen line. Great thrash, picture-postcard, winter-wonderland scenery, weird stock, a free mince pie..! Many thanks to the LDG.
4th Jun 2007A Walk on the Wild Side
Some pics of scenic Wales. Whilst not exactly a Sherpa Tenzing, I do enjoy the occasional walk up hill and down dale as another hobby. Myself and the odd family member can be spotted...
8th Aug 2005{1} In and Around Chester station
Chester, gateway to Wales. Features Classes 20, 31, 33, 37, 47, 50, 52 and 55, and every combination of platform departures
7th Aug 2005{2} Chester to Prestatyn
Several different classes are pictured leaving or approaching Chester, still one of my favourite station departures, including pairs of 20s and the Crewe Test train. Plus, arrivals at Prestatyn
6th Aug 2005{3} Prestatyn to Rhyl
Features various classes arriving and stopping at Rhyl, plus 37430 running round the old Cardiff-Rhyl service, before heading back to Crewe
5th Aug 2005{4} Rhyl to Colwyn Bay
Featuring a seriously-clagging pair of Choppers climbing away from both Rhyl and Colwyn Bay and, for comedy value, a Duff dragging a failed Wagon....!
4th Aug 2005{5} Colwyn Bay to Llandudno Junction
Photos taken in and around Llandudno Junction. This, and other galleries below, demonstrate the vast changes this area has undergone over the years, obscuring the great views towards Conwy Castle
3rd Aug 2005{6} Llandudno Jn to Blaenau Ffestiniog
Over the years, I've enjoyed the thrash up to Blaenau with a Goyle, 40, Duff, DMU and even two 50s. Does it always rain in Blaenau ? See for yourself.....
2nd Aug 2005{7} Llandudno Jn to Llandudno
The 3-mile branch to Ludo brings back such great memories: biscuits from the lady at the end of her garden, fun with the golfers, Deganwy level crossing, 32-a-side footy matches.....
1st Aug 2005{8} Llandudno Jn to Bangor
My favourite part of the line for the approaches to Conwy Castle, sea wall thrashes, superb views and long, dank tunnels. A few pics show just how much the area around Llan.Jn has changed
31st Jul 2005{9} Bangor station
A popular stopping-off point on North Wales adventures, hence the volume of photos. The view from the hill was always worthwhile, and run-rounds gave plenty of scope for pics
30th Jul 2005{10} Bangor to Holyhead
Holyhead - journey's end. On the way, Britannia Bridge, the views across the Menai Straits and the dash across Anglesey. Again, these pics capture some of the big changes to the train/boat terminal over the years
